Features:
The 2010 MXU 500 IRS is KymcoÂ’s largest and most powerful ATV to date. Powered by a liquid-cooled 4-stroke, DOHC 498cc engine, the MXU 500 IRS has its sights set on the popular 500cc middleweight class.
Along with its new engine, Kymco’s latest creation features shift-on-the-fly 4x4 traction and independent rear suspension. The CVT automatic transmission has forward, neutral, reverse, park, low and high gear with a front differential lock that, according to Kymco, will ‘get you in, out or over any trail conditions.
Stopping power is provided by front and rear hydraulic disc brakes and you can take your gear with you on front and rear racks or tow it behind you thanks to a standard trailer hitch with a half-ton capacity. 25 x 12-inch Maxxis tires help provide 10.2 inches of ground clearance.
According to Kymco, the MXU 500 IRS will retail for $6,199 and is available in black, green, blue, red or True Timber Conceal Green.
Like all Kymco ATVs, the MXU 500 IRS is backed by a limited one-year warranty and up to a four-year Kymco Extended Protection Plan is also available from any authorized dealer.

Bottom Line:
The first thing that jumped out at me when I saw the new 2010 KYMCO MXU 500 IRS was the size of the seat. After sitting on it I was amazed at how comfortable this atv seat is. I know I could ride all day long and not regret it.
Although the MXU 500 is not fuel injected yet, it has an electric choke that assists this machine with it's starting chore. You can be fooled very easily into thinking this engine is fuel injected. Koodos to the KYMCO electric choke.
The IRS suspension coupled with the sway bar is very effective in soaking up the bumps while providing a very nice ride.
The 4 wheel drive switch and locker is KYMCO's way of showing you how to do it right! It is simple to use and very effective.
The dash board layout is frugal and effective with just enough information to help you keep track of things, but not too much to be overwhelming and cluttered.
This machine is put together with all the best components and you know that KYMCO has put a lot of man hours into this design. From the steel braided brake lines to the disc brakes, going on through the drive line and engine, every thing is laid out just right.
One of the unique things is their excellent snorkeling on the cvt intake and exhaust. Both the exit and the intake are at their highest points, giving you the ability to traverse very deep water without fear of getting your cvt belt wet. This peace of mind is priceless to me, and should make many a hunter very very happy.
All in all this MXU 500 is proving itself to be a very strong contender in the 500 market place, and I would strongly consider checking this atv out if I were looking for an atv in the mid range size group.
I will add more of my thoughts to this review as we put this atv through it's paces here at atvpt.com headquarters throughout the year.
